Sony let 1000 workers to go from its operations in Lund, Sweden

Thursday, 23 August 2012
Sony which recently amassed the rest of Ericsson in their former Sony Ericsson consortium, is now laying off about 650 people in Lund, the company finally announced in a press release.

This will be followed by a reduction in the number of number of consultants.
Of the 3,000 employees, 600 are consultants.
We reported yesterday that Sony had summoned a meeting with worker in Lund to talk about their fate. This comes as the changes in Sony Mobile Communication's global structure would mean that its facilities in Tokyo, Lund and Beijing are to be restructured. In October, its headquarters will move moved from Lund to Japan.

Sony Mobile plans to reduce its total workforce by about 15 percent, about 1,000 people, including consultants.

The company writes in a press release that Lund will continue to be a strategically important location for Sony Mobile.

The downsizing will be implemented by the end of March 2014.
