to life

It had been known that eating more vegetable and fruits lead to better and healthy lifestyle. That seems to have been more assumptions than facts as a new Swedish study tries to put facts where its supposed to have been missing.
The study shows that fruits and vegetables prolong life in a large study in which 72,000 people participated. It thus seems to suggest that those who eat a lot of fruit and vegetables can live several years longer than those who don't.
According
to reports in a Swedish news newspaper, Uppsala Nya Tidning, culling
from a new research, people who daily consume a lot of fruits and
vegetables live several years longer than those who rarely or never eat
such foods items. The study was conducted using questionnaires that
were followed up for 13 years. During that time, about 11 000 people
died.
72,000 middle-aged and older women and men in Uppsala, Västmanland and
Örebro, in Sweden took part in the study which was published online in
the professional journal, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
"Our results provide further support for the Swedish Food Authority's
recommendation to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables divided into five
portions a day," says researcher Susanna Larsson at the Department of
Nutrition Epidemiology at the Karolinska Institute.
Women and men in the study launched in the late 1990s, in a large
health survey which included 96 questions about their eating and
drinking habits. All were basically healthy when they answered the
questionnaire, but for up to 13 years as they followed up since then
11000 died of various diseases.
