Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Finland in that order where classed as the EU's most innovative economies according to the Innovation Union Scoreboard 2013.

Others such as the UK dropped from sixth to eighth in the European Commission's latest annual Innovation Union Scoreboard, which ranks Member States' innovation performance based on 24 statistical indicators. The report also indicate that EU more innovative countries classification also had the gap between countries widening.

Sweden remains the EU's most innovative economy, followed by Germany, which has overtaken Denmark to move into second place. Finland stays fourth.
