A new map showing areas of high and low pollution to be released
soon is already determined to affect house prices in Denmark. Property
experts predict that homes close to much air-polluted areas as the map
will reveal will see its price fall.
As we reported yesterday, Denmark has already identified that people
who live in the inner city areas of Copenhagen suffer more from the
effects of pollution and that the casualty is growing.
The map is being developed by the Department of Environmental Science
at Aarhus University will be able to show what air pollution are at all
Danish addresses.
John Rasmussen, proprietor of real estate business, Nybolig Amager in
Copenhagen, feels that the map will have a noticeable effect.
"When we assess homes, many factors play in, and this one will for some
properties to be positive, while for homes that are affected by
pollution, will pull the other way. There is no doubt," he says.
One reason why this is a strong issue for the house market is that
previously home buyers did not think much about pollution as a factor
influencing their home ownership choice. This is because such
information about the intensity of pollution was not available.
Therefore its availability will have an effect on prices.
