Fredrik Reinfeldt, Swedish PM approved Swedish participation in the development of weapons factory in Saudi Arabia

Despite all the media wrangling, Swedish Prime minister, Fredrik Reinfeldt is reported to have approved the participation of Sweden in the construction of the weapons factory in Saudi Arabia.

Reports hold that he was chairman of the meeting where the FOI was commissioned to help Saudi Arabia build a weapons factory, according to radio Sweden reports.

At a Cabinet meeting on November 20, 2008, the decision to proceed with the feasibility study of the project to build a weapons factory in Saudi Arabia was done by the Swedish organisation, FOI.

Chairing the meeting was Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and was supported by members of the Swedish defence council such as the Office of the Secretary with names such as:
Odell, Leijonborg, Larsson, Carlgren, Hagglund, Carlsson, Borg, Malmström, Sabuni, Billström, Tolgfors and Bjorling, were all present said Office of the Secretary to the radio Sweden.

This shows that both the Liberals and Christian Democrats, who oppose cooperation with Saudi Arabia, were represented at the meeting.

The decision, which has code number FO: 2008/3004/MIL, was sent to radio Sweden and it reads:
"FOI is authorized further to the research an agreement with the concerned Saudi authority to negotiate a project agreement to participate as a consultant to Saudi Arabia itself, to create a safe handling of explosive substances in the country by the Swedish knowledge and the Swedish model, and to renovate and modify existing anti-tank weapons."
