Peace researcher warns Patria on light arms sales
Tuesday, 20 March 2012
A researcher at
the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) has warned
the Finnish defence company Patria of the problems surrounding the sale
of arms to Saudi Arabia.
Pieter
Wezeman from the Institute says a clear risk exists that Finnish-made
Nemo mortar launching systems are used against the public to suppress
civil unrest.
Patria received a government licence to sell the Nemo system to Saudi Arabia last December.
The company did not want to speculate on the issue when questioned by YLE.
