Three kilograms
of plutonium recently left Sweden to an address in the United States.

hitherto secret cooperation with the United States, said Swedish
Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.
The U.S.A
dispose of plutonium under the Non-proliferation Programme’s Global
Threat Reduction Initiative, has seen Bildt saying that it is "A
concrete contribution" of Sweden to prevent the spread of nuclear
materials. And the government in Washington has guaranteed that it is
not to use it for military purposes.
Bildt writes
that what was sent to the United States is "primarily about three
kilograms of plutonium that has a background in the Swedish research
and development in the nuclear field, especially during the 1950 and
1960's".
The plutonium
was moved from the closed resort in Ågesta reactor in Huddinge. Carl
Bildt on Tuesday present Sweden's cooperation with the United
States at a summit on nuclear security in the Korean Seoul.
In
his speech at the ongoing summit on nuclear security in Seoul, Minister
for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt emphasised the importance of
international cooperation in efforts to prevent uranium, plutonium and
other radioactive material from falling into the wrong hands and being
used for the production of nuclear devices or in acts of terrorism.
"Sweden
whole-heartedly supports international efforts to strengthen the
protection of nuclear material to prevent it being used for the
proliferation of nuclear weapons or in dirty bombs that would cause
extensive destruction," Mr Bildt said in his speech.
Mr Bildt spoke
about the measures that Sweden has taken since the summit in Washington
in 2010, and highlighted national efforts to strengthen security
regarding nuclear material and nuclear facilities.
